Just in Time

in Celebrations

Well, that was QUITE the break, wasn’t it? Sadly, the end of November and most of December haven’t been all that kind to our family, and have included food poisoning for me, a fall down the stairs that resulted in a sprained wrist for me, croup (or the virus that causes croup) for all members of the family, a double ear infection for Jackson, bronchitis for Jackson, an illness induced asthma issue for N.C., and even an ear infection for the dog. There has been lots of laying around, sleeping, visits to the doctor (and the pharmacy), fevers, coughs, and a general lack of wellness. It’s put a bit of a damper on our holiday cheer, but luckily, we’re all coming out of it just in time for the actual holiday. Minus some lingering cough and still getting worn out pretty easily, I think we’ll all rally for the big day.

One nice (ish?) thing about everyone being sick in the lead up to Christmas is that we have had to take it easy. I’m bummed that we weren’t able to do a lot of the things I was hoping, like bake cookies together, or go look at lights, or go to Jackson’s school’s holiday party, but it also has meant that we are rather calm about the whole holiday season. Once I let go of the to-do list, it’s been nice to just say “Christmas is going to be what it’s going to be” and let all the extraneous stuff fall to the wayside. We’ll do all that stuff another year, when we’re healthier, but this year, we’re just going to enjoy our little family being together and really, isn’t that the biggest part of Christmas? (And of course, the excitement of the 4 year old is bound to energize us. Because honestly, it’s just too fun to watch a little kid at Christmas).

And to end on a sappy note: This holiday, I wish you and yours the merriest of Christmases, the happiest of holidays, the best and warmest wishes from my family to yours–germs not included.

Wow that sounds like a rough ending to the year but hopefully Jackson’s excitement today made up for it!

Gah, I am sorry to hear that your past month+ has been as tough as mine (we also had multiple illnesses, but the biggest problem in our house was major sleep issues which made us all miserable). Here’s to hoping for a much nicer January!
