A Quiet Weekend Awaits

in Downtime

It’s Friday, thank goodness, and I am more than ready to spend the weekend with my family. I plan to go to the pool or the beach, paint my nails, play with my makeup, go on a date with my husband, play with my kid. I’ll probably have a beer or two. Oh, and write a few blog posts. It’ll be a rollicking good time.

You know, sometimes I wonder what it’s like to have a different life–a more exciting one, filled with adventure and excitement, marked by things that one might put in a memoir. My memoir would be pretty tame, filled more with what I thought about than with what I did. I mean, who really wants to hear about that weekend where I painted my nails? But then I remember that I like this life. I like the quiet, and the calm. I am blessed with what I have, and though I wish for things sometimes (more travel! more food! being two of the big ones), I ultimately live a lucky and charmed, if quiet life. And that makes me smile.

Today, in honor of my not-memoir worthy weekend exercise of painting my nails, I’m going to give away a couple of bottles of nail polish.

Polish giveaway
Sorry for the terrible picture.

Julep Bunny is a white with a faint gold shimmer that I’ve been somewhat obsessed with this summer. Zoya GeiGei is a ballerina pink that just looks dainty and pretty*. To enter, just leave me a comment with your weekend plans by 9 am PST on Saturday, August 24.

*Reminder, these aren’t sponsored–I bought these goodies with my own dollar bills. Or, more accurately, with my own credit card number.

Fall soccer kicks off (you see what I did there?) tomorrow, so we have four mini-soccer games followed by a birthday party. The usual weekend gauntlet of laundry, grocery shopping, house cleaning. Followed by a church picnic Sunday. A quiet weekend sounds pretty good from where I’m sitting!

I love quiet weekends, too. Well “quiet”, I guess, because the noise level in our house, 24/7 is a bit higher than I’d like… Swimming lessons, hiking at a nearby trail, frisbee at the park, and the usual assortment of “have tos”. I’ll try to squeeze in a nail-painting session—I did my toenails and my boys’ in turquoise last weekend, maybe we’ll try purple this weekend (got to use them all before sandal weather disappears).

I’m going to a wedding tomorrow afternoon, and hopefully spending the rest of the weekend finishing up some house projects — new playroom for the toddler, and framing and hanging family photos. Not the quietest of weekends, but still pretty low-key.

No weekend plans here! Maybe a visitor for the baby. Just chillin.

Katherine August 23, 2013 at 4:13 pm

Work, do laundry, clean. As usual.

I’ll either be working for my folks tomorrow or staying home with my kids while Jeremy continues to get our house move-in ready. Then mass and naps on Sunday. QUIET=GLORIOUS. That pink is gorgeous, and if I don’t win, I may go out and buy some for myself.

Love the polish colors! Here at Chateau Yarborough we are opting for quiet. I’m going out of town next week so I will be prepping and packing. Our big outing is going to be grocery shopping at Whole Foods! Woo-hoo! I hear what you are saying on the whole “what if my life were..” but on the whole I love my life too. Sometimes I get frustrated or impatient with how slow time goes… and then overwhelmed with how many things I want to get done. But then I just remind myself to take things one day at a time, and be thankful for where I’m at. Have a great weekend!

I’ll be attending husband’s ball tourney with the little ones in the morning, and then I hear tell my in-laws have offered to babysit so we can have a date night -wonder of wonders, I’m way too pumped.

Older mom August 23, 2013 at 7:53 pm

Quiet weekend, most are usually filled with chores. Tomorrow mom and I go for pedis, first since her hip surgery, so she is pretty pumped. Then I will take her to lunch. After that catch up on chores and go in to the office to do some work. Definitely going to have a couple cocktails too! Have a great weekend Ginger.

The first half of my weekend was crazy, as we were finishing vacation and had two flights with a five and one year old. But today is oddly calm and relaxed, and I am loving it. Getting to catch up on a week’s worth of blog posts that I missed. 🙂
