A question for you

A question for you, my favorite people inside the little glowy box (as opposed to the big glowy box that is the TV. Those people don’t talk back to me):

Do you think my banner looks like my voice sounds? What I mean by that is…I was thinking the other day that while my banner is all light and frivolous and fun and fluffy (and I lurve it. Mad props to the husband for making it), my writing is…uh, not that. Well, not to say that I’m not sometimes full of fluff, but I was wondering if my banner says “humor” and my writing then says “uh, just kidding!”. Because while I may write silliness sometimes, I’m by no means a humor writer. And I don’t know if what the visual of my banner is gets completely flipped when you start to read.

Does any of that make sense?

And if it does, what do you think?

I totally love your banner. I think it works for you, maybe it is a over-doing the rambling a bit…if that makes sense. When I think of rambling I think of run on sentences and too many ellipses. You know…like how I write. Your writing is more polished than that, but I do love your banner

Well the banner is always the first thing that catches my eye when I stop here – I love the colours and the design (kudos Husband!). I think, personally, it serves it’s purpose to make people think, “Oooh, what have we here?” which then makes them read a couple of posts. Thankfully for you, your writing style is also great, and is eye catching, so I think the two go hand in hand 🙂 Is this your marketing mind working overtime? 😉

I found your blog and I love it. The Banner NC created (no doubt at your direction) fits. Thanks Gin. I really like your Ramblings.

This is so hard to answer, because I feel like I “know” you now, and part of that you I know is the banner. I also think of rambling not just as “going on and on,” but as wandering and meandering for fun.

There’s also this point in _The Last Waltz_ (The Band documentary by Scorsese, if you haven’t seen it), where Levon Helm calls a certain type of Southern music show a “Midnight Ramble,” so that word carries that association for me, too.

So to me, there isn’t a conflict between the way you write/ your content and the banner, in part because I think you are a humorous person in your approach to the world, your way of seeing irony/craziness/funny stuff, which doesn’t mean you necessarily have to be a humor writer.

Whoa, way to ramble my way into a run-on there 🙂

A little truth: while I like your banner, I’ll admit that I didn’t really get it in terms of fitting in with your blog when you first posted it. But, that’s on me to like it or not. The bigger question which you seem to be asking is should you keep it? I say if you’re trying to brand this blog and have a really cohesive theme, then maybe it’s time to reconsider the connection between the banner and your blog (for all the reasons you stated). But, if you just want to blog without a greater meaning, so to speak, then who cares. If you like the banner and it has nothing to do with your blog, that’s totally your prerogative. And if your husband made it, then in some ways, it fits in, since you blog about life and motherhood and family … and he is certainly a part of that!

I agree with Nilsa. I like the banner, but I’m not sure it fits with your writing style. But it is your blog, so ultimately it is your space.
