Today is the first day of my maternity leave, and I’m at a bit of a loss of what to do with myself until the babe gets here. I mean, all I really want to do is to sit in the chair with my feet up (thanks to what appears to be some form of a lovely little thing called psd, doing much more than that gets painful fast). But I sort of feel like this is my last week or so of having time to myself for a while so I should enjoy it or something.
Since I’ve already taken care of about 98% of the nursery/baby stuff, and we’ve stocked the freezer with quick and easy foods for the first few weeks, and I’ve gotten all the healthcare paperwork as done as I can without having the kid here, I’m down to just a few things baby related to do. The rest can be for me!
So here’s my list of ideas for things to do with myself until the kid gets here:
- This one’s easy–my 30th birthday is on Wednesday, so we’ll probably go out to dinner that night. I’m also going to see about a massage, a manicure and a pedicure. A nice day of pampering as I enter my 30’s and motherhood sounds pretty damn good.
- Go to a matinee movie during the week. What should we see?
- Spend some time at the pool. Since we don’t have air conditioning (we live too close to the beach), in the afternoon when it gets hot, I think this will be a great solution!
- Catch up on some TV & movies that N.C. has no interest in.
- Maybe a little jaunt to the bookstore to splurge for a new book or two to read at the pool.
- Take naps. I’ve never been well rested during my pregnancy, and heaven knows when the little one gets here I won’t be getting much sleep, so I think naps when I’m drowsy this week are in order.
- If I get ambitious, I may organize some old photos. Ok, maybe it’s more than “some”…I’ve probably got over 1000 photos that need to be put in albums. It’s a project I’ve been meaning to take care of for a good year or so, but just never get around to.
Yeah, I dunno, that list still seems to be a little light. Any suggestions or recommendations?
As always, more lists can be found over at abdpbt:
We have the same birthday! I saw Inglorious Basterds and thought it was awesome, of course there is some gore, so you might want to avoid it. I would definitely take some naps, though–you need to bank up your sleep. Also, happy blog birthday!
Naps would be the best idea. Sleeping in the hospital/during labor is really hard and then, well, you have been warned. Pedicure is also a must. My fancy purple toe nails were pretty much all that got me through some of the less glamorous stuff. Also, and this will sound kinda stupid, but read a baby care book (though I am sure you have already). So many women tell me they never did then find themselves heading home with baby having never read anything past the labor and delivery part. I liked Baby 411 by Dr. Ari Brown. Just a, hopefully not too pushy, suggestion.
Enjoy your birthday!
I should make a list for myself, I still have 8 weeks. And have probably 75% of nursery done. But I’m officially no longer working, so I have the time on my hands now.
I came to your blog by way of SITS! 🙂
