Things that are happy and jolly and make me smile

So, I had this whole ranty blog post written out, full of snark and venom and all the things I wanted desperately to say to my coworkers today. It was one of those days, where everyone at work seemed to be functioning without all their brain cells just to piss me off, and I just had to get it all off my chest. I had every intention of posting it too–there were no real identifying details that could get me in trouble, and I figured enough of you out there could probably feel my pain that it would be interesting to see what my comment section would look like.

But when I went to press publish, I hesitated (obviously). This thought crossed my mind, just a whisper really…”you’re always so negative.” Am I? Am I always negative, or is it just my conscious being guilty about all the nasty things I wrote and was about to share with the world? I know my husband thinks I can be a negative nancy, though I tend to take the view that I’m just pragmatic or at the least, realistic. But maybe I am. Maybe I do have a tendency to focus on the bad, or the potentially bad, or what’s pissing me off, rather than what makes me happy, or what’s good, or the general positive in life.

So I put away that negative post, and wrote this one instead, where I will focus on the good. Where I will not dwell on the unhappy from today, but will write about things that are happy and jolly and make me smile. Let’s see how it goes, shall we? So without further ado, a list of things that definitely AREN’T negative!

  • It’s staying lighter later and later. Pretty soon, it’ll be light all evening long, or at least long enough for me to go home and take pictures after work, and enjoy the sunset from home, rather from my cube.
  • My best friend from high school has finally (finally!!) moved back to the States. She lived overseas for a few years due to being married to an Army man and I haven’t seen her since my wedding, which is far far far too long. Now that she’s back on native soil, I’m trying to figure out a reunion.
  • We got a Wii Fit for Christmas, and let me tell you, that thing is awesome. N.C. will yell at me because I took the weekend off, but it’s very easy to use it every day after work without feeling the horror of the gym. I know, it doesn’t make up for a “real” workout, but I’m loving the yoga and balance stuff!
  • After quite a drought in the books department, I’m back in my reading groove. I read 6 books over the holidays, and have another one started. I may even do a few reviews in upcoming days (but don’t hold me to it). Anyone have any recommendations? And yes, I have Twilight on my list…eventually.
  • Not to rub it in for folks who live elsewhere, but it was like 82 degrees here today. This folks, this is why we moved away from New York.
  • This business ninja watches over me at work. And I lurve him.
  • Apparently, today is Delurking Day (or at least, that’s what the internets have told me). I’m trying my best to be a good little blog reader and comment wherever I can, though I won’t claim total success. If any of my readers want to delurk and leave me a comment that would definitely not be a negative thing!

Ok, so I’ll admit, focusing on the good has put me in a better mood. I guess there’s something to be said for that, huh?

There’s also something to be said for lists, which you can find more of over at abdpbt every Monday!

Ok, I’ll delurk! I definitely need to follow your example and stop focusing on the negative, too. Great list!

I definitely go through negative slumps, but when I do, Eric forces me to count things I am grateful for. Fun times! Enjoy the sun–I know I am in Texas!

I don’t think you should be worried about always being negative. I DO think you should be worried about work finding out about negative work posts on your blog. Ever heard of being Dooced? There have been many a blogger who have gotten fired over their blogs. Be careful!

We got our Wii Fit hooked up just after the holidays. And I like it to mix up my workouts. I doubt I’ll use it everyday as I get better workouts in the gym. But, I see going to it once or twice a week to keep at it, even on days I don’t want to get to the gym!
