Shopping Hangover

I spent 5 hours today shopping. For one outfit.

For some people, that might be fun, but for me it was exhausting. I seriously came home exhausted, feeling like I had run a marathon. I don’t enjoy that kind of shopping. It always messes with my self-esteem, makes me fret about money, reminds me how much I have no sense of style, and that’s before we even get to the trauma of the dressing room.

Ah, the dressing room. Where the lighting is terrible, the floors are gross, someone is always knocking and asking if you’re ok right as you’re struggling to get a dress off over your head. Good times. And, I don’t know if this happens to you, but I get SO hot and sweaty in the dressing room. Which, you know, is great for getting clothes off and on. Oh, and I always, ALWAYS break at least one nail if I’m trying on more than 2 things. I don’t know what voodoo that is, especially since it happens kind of no matter what I’m trying on.

Bleh.

I don’t like shopping for clothes online either though. Things never look the way I think they will, or are cut differently than I thought they were, and I always seem to pick the wrong size.

Basically, I just don’t like any part of the process of procuring my own clothing.

I’m sooo with you. I went shopping yesterday, too. I managed to find the jeans I need, but totally failed to find the jacket I need. I need the jacket for a professional head shot shoot I’ve scheduled for Wednesday. So, uh, I’m going out shopping again today.

SIGH.

Totally agree. I shop, finally find something I like, looks good in the mirror (skinny mirror?). Then I wear it, someone takes a group shot and I just go “what was I thinking?”
Ugggg

I have to be in a specific mood to clothes shop, and also be willing to walk away so I can’t be on a time crunch. This is probably why I’m always looking, just in case, so I don’t ever have to go specifically to look for something.

Ugh, yes. Shopping is the worst, and online shopping is even worse than that. Although, I don’t know, I’m starting to get used to the fact that I can always return stuff, and that makes shopping from home a lot easier. Way more selection, and I can try stuff on in the comfort of my own home… where I somehow don’t get ridiculously sweaty. Seriously, what is the deal with those dressing rooms? I guess just the stress of shopping, because that ALWAYS happens to me too, even if I’m chilly to start.

Of course, the downside of online shopping is all the time spent waiting, and then the hassle of sending stuff back if there’s not a local store I can return it to. But lately I’ve been getting so frustrated with shopping in stores that it’s almost worth it. I’m sure eventually I’ll swing back the other way.

There is nothing NOTHING worse than clothes shopping. I hate all of it. I get sweaty and cranky and I get annoyed with perky salespeople. I don’t mind if they ask once if they can get me another size, but constant checking drives me nuts. And if I discover that there is no mirror in the change room, I want to just leave. I don’t need perky salespeople commenting on it. ARGH.
