*I was sent a box to review, but was not compensated further.  All opinions and run-on sentences are 100% mine.

Once again, Beauty Box 5 was my first sub box to arrive this month, which should probably stop impressing me at some point, but likely won’t. Because I’m easy to please. So, what did this month bring me?

As a reminder: Beauty Box 5 is a subscription-based, beauty sampling program that delivers a box filled with 5 cosmetic samples to your door every month. It is $12/month, $30/Quarterly, or $99/annually.

Beauty Box 5 February 2014

I’m going to admit that this month’s box was a little lackluster for me, though almost entirely for reasons that are specific to me. On a glance, this box is actually pretty nice! Nail polish, and mascara, and shampoo and conditioner and makeup remover and even a credit for some jewelry! Not bad!

Unfortunately, I have reasons why almost all of those things aren’t making me jump up and down with excitement.

Rockstar Nails Nail Polish & Caviar
First up, we have the nail polish. I’ll admit, I LOVE the color. But unfortunately, I’ve already tested this nail caviar texture thing out with another brand, and find that I LOATHE it. It seriously drives me up the wall. So I’m a little meh on the overall concept. Luckily, I’ll use the nail polish without the little beads, but it does lose some of the “special” part of it to lose the beads.

Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara
Next, we have the mascara. Yay, mascara! Especially mascara in little tubes because they’re a good size to use up before they expire. Except, womp womp, I’ve already tested this exact mascara in another sub box and found it doesn’t really work for me. This will go in my swap box, for someone else to test out.

John Freida Luxurious Volume Shampoo and Conditioner
Next up, shampoo and conditioner. Now these, I will actually use–they’re volumizing and I’m always looking for more volume with this haircut. And I’m even ok with the fact that they are foil packets–they sent two of each, and I’ll just put them in some little bottles I have, no problem. The main problem I have with these is that I have SO MUCH shampoo and conditioner, it’s practically going to be 2016 before I get around to these. I only wash my hair a couple of times a week, so I’ve got a backlog of shampoo and conditioner samples, plus the actual bottles of stuff I have. It’s nice to add to the stash, but who knows when I’ll actually get around to using them.

Every Beauty Makeup Remover Pads with Argan Oil Extract
Now we’ve got makeup remover pads. I DID test one of these out, and I was fairly sufficiently impressed–they got rid of all my makeup, even my eye makeup, without too much scrubbing. And I woke up without raccoon eyes, so, bonus points! But I’m being pretty picky about my skin lately, and I like what I’ve been using as makeup remover too much to switch it up, even for a handful of samples. I’ll keep these on hand for travel or days where I need to take off some makeup without doing my full face washing routine, but in general, not something I’m super excited about. $10 Off Certificate
Finally, the credit for jewelry. Gotta say, I *am* excited about this. Can’t lie, I’ve been wanting a name necklace for a while, and now I can TOTALLY get one.

Setting all my *personal* issues with this box aside, I still think it’s a decent value. With the exception of the mascara and the beads, I will end up using everything, eventually. I think part of why I’m a little less enthused, actually, is because I like being able to play with all my new box goodies RIGHT AWAY, and so the delayed usage isn’t helping. But again, I think the value is there, even if the OOMPH isn’t.
