2014 Makeup & Beauty Goals

in Makeup and Beauty

I know, I know that sounds dumb. But I’ve been thinking about this off and on for a while, and to go with my yearly to-do list, I have some goals in mind for my beauty world. Since I’ve fallen face first (ha!) into a full on makeup addiction, why not?

  1. Stop hoarding old makeup. I don’t know why I can’t seem to bring myself to throw away old makeup, but I need to knock it off. In part because there’s no need to have 5 year old eyeliner that’s not that great and I never use, but also because my vanity is getting way too crowded.
  2. Get better at my blush application. I think I’m afraid of clown face so I go light on blush, but then it all disappears off my face within an hour or two. Also, I’m not entirely sure I’m doing the best thing for my face shape.
  3. Finally learn (and retain) what the hell my undertones are. I swear, it’s like this piece of information is impossible for me to actually absorb.
  4. Get a little more serious about skincare. Because all the pretty colors in the world will look better on a nicer canvas.
  5. Experiment more with eyeshadow techniques & color combos. I feel like I’m leaps and bounds better than I was a year ago, but this year I want to try and incorporate more color into (wearable) looks, and just get better overall. Blending is harder than it seems!
  6. In general, get better at color theory and putting together complimentary combos. Which lipsticks will clash with my purple blush? Which eyeshadow colors look better with which lipsticks. Right now I just kind of do whatever I feel like, which is fun, but sometimes…doesn’t work as well as one might hope.
  7. Figure out contouring. Holy intimidating batman!
  8. Drink more water. I’m pretty terrible about drinking water, but I DO notice a big difference in how my skin looks when I do. (why can’t it look better with mass quantities of Diet Coke?)
  9. Be more thoughtful in my buying. Last year, I kind of went overboard on the buying of new makeup. And I don’t regret any of my purchases! But, I have a lot of stuff to get through now, and only one face to wear it all on. So I’m going to try and be less impulsive and more thoughtful in what and when I buy.
  10. Share pictures of my makeup more. I’ve learned a lot from watching beauty vlogs, but I’ll admit that sometimes I’m intimidated by how GOOD they all make their makeup look. I know that it’s from practice, but sometimes I think it would be nice to see what us mere mortals (who are rushing out the door on the way to work) might look like. So, why not share my own? Plus, I can see my own mistakes better in pictures.

(see? I need to work on that blending. Although the Stila Magnificent Metals hide a lot of sins in real life (they’re WAY shinier in real life))

So, there are 10 makeup and beauty goals for 2014. Some of them may be easier than others, but I think this is a good list to work from. How about you? Any beauty goals I can steal to share?

Yes, please share pictures…and your tutorials. Sorry to create work for you, but I need ALL the makeup instruction I can get my hands on!

I think you do a beautiful job with your makeup, and you’ve inspired me to wear mine more often (read: ever). I’m not sure I ever had any technique to begin with, but it’s feels like I’m starting from ground zero after so many years of barely bothering, and that’s OK when I have wonderful examples like you to emulate.

Undertones! Why can’t I figure this out? How do I figure this out? And how do I remember once I do? All this is to say, giant head nod to #3.

OOH, fun! I am so looking forward to more makeup pictures 🙂 Your eyeshadow looks gorgeous, blending is overrated!
