Peace and Quiet Through the White Noise

by Ginger on November 21, 2013

in Downtime

It’s raining right now. I can hear the pitter pattery sounds of rain falling on the balcony, along with the glugglugglug sounds of water going through the gutter & down the downspouts, plus the splishsplash sounds as cars drive through puddles on the street outside. It is noisy, in a quiet way, in a way that surrounds me and makes me feel like the whole house is wrapped in a blanket of white noise.

Peacefulness is hard to come by in a house as busy as ours. The sounds of the four year old, the dog, the cat, the street, the house, they all overwhelm peacefulness more often than not. But sometimes there are brief moments where there is quiet and I can sit and enjoy the peace. It feels comforting. It feels rejuvenating. It feels calm.

I’m going to take advantage of it. I’m going to close the internet down, wrap myself up in a blanket, get a cup of tea, and read a book in the peace and quiet that the white noise of a rainy night grants. And who knows, maybe I’ll wake up tomorrow refreshed because I filled up on peace when I had the chance.

Oh, how nice. You don’t realize how rare and needed peace is until you have it and see what you were missing. Sometimes I get so ramped up and I know it’s the noise but I have no idea how to fix it. Do they make muzzles for children? My kids would hum if unable to talk.
