Five Years of Blogging, Five Years of Home

in Blogging & Social Media

Five years ago, I started RambleRamble, looking for a place to build and nurture my own thoughts and creativity. Five years, 879 posts*, 6000+ comments later, and I can honestly say that my life has been made immeasurably happier by having this little spot. I have met amazing people, and made amazing friends. I have learned a lot about myself, and about other people. I have found out I enjoy writing (even if I’m not great at it). I have found a little space that I feel is all mine. This place is, by far, my favorite hobby/addiction/obsession.

The world of blogging looks different than it did 5 years ago. People come and go. Traffic rises and falls (and falls and falls. ;-P). I write less or more or less. So do other people. Social media changes how we share our thoughts, and short form overtakes long form (I’m even playing with some short form stuff –I have a makeup Tumblr. No, I’m not 14), and it is just…different.

But I can’t see myself giving this space up.  This feels like home. It’s my little wordy, needy, introspective, rambly home. I plan to be here a while longer yet.

So thank you for being here, for reading, for talking to me. For “listening” to my rambling. For being amazing, for becoming my friends.

Now, because it’s my 5th blogging birthday, and my actual human birthday is in 5 days, I decided I’m going to do 5 days of giveaways. None of this is sponsored, some of it will likely come from my “gift drawer” at home, and it really is just something I’m doing for funsies because I want to.

Today’s giveaway is going to be a $25 Amazon gift card. To be entered, leave me a comment with either a)a link to your favorite of YOUR blog posts or b)a blog you love by Sunday, August 25th at midnight PST. (the other contests will run shorter, but I wanted to give everyone time to find their favorites!). And thanks, again, for coming along on this rambling journey.

*anything earlier than August 21, 2008 was brought over from my sad, pathetic little myspace blog. I don’t count those, but for some reason wanted them around.

Aaron Poehler August 22, 2013 at 2:04 pm is my favorite of my blog posts because it gave me an opportunity to showcase something very special to me and memorialize someone whose work has been a constant in my life.

Happy Blogaversary! A post where I laid my heart on the table:

I’m a big fan of Expatria, Baby ( As for my favorite post from my blog, I guess it would be the one Mr. Sandwich wrote last week:

I also like this one:

Hi Ginger!
Happy Blogaversary!! Five years is quite an accomplishment. 🙂 I love coming to your blog because 1) you ARE a good writer and 2) you are so honest. You make me feel better about doing this blogging thing too. The link I am putting is something that I wrote recently and I’m proud of it because I really liked how it came out. Even though I have been at this blogging thing or awhile, I find that I am still finding my voice. Here’s the link:

Five years is a lot of writing! Happy birthday, too. 🙂

I read a lot but don’t comment much; hope you don’t mind.

I think this is my favorite blog post, or at least the one that comes to mind first:

This is a website I’ve really enjoyed lately:

I don’t know if this is my favorite blog but I like the honesty of this post from Sweet Find Day:

It’s rather long but I think length is what sets blogging apart from other social media formats. I have a short attention span but I still appreciate people who take the time to write and share honest thoughts.

Happy Blogaversary!

Happy blothday! (That doesn’t work, does it?)

Anyway, I really like Mir at

Oh, LADY, you are one of my favorite internet gifts, you know that? I really feel lucky to have met you, lucky to have hung out with you so often, and lucky that your writing exits. You’re something else, Ginger. High-fives to five years for you!

Hi Friend! I already received my gift so I won’t throw my hat in the ring (plus we know I’m way too indecisive to choose just one). That being said, I just want to say a big congrats on five years! I remember when this was an idea – and I’m so glad you started writing and have kept going. So proud of you and happy to call you a friend (even if I am a IRL friend). 😉 Cheers!!!

What a cool idea!

I think my favorite blog post of mine might be the one about how everyone has a work limit:

And a blog I love is:

Happy Blog Birthday and Happy Birthday!

My favorite post is this one, since the pictures make me happy:

It is seriously impossible to pick a FAVORITE blog, because it changes all of the time. Jennie ( is consistently awesome, and she likes to make lists.

I don’t really have a favorite blog post from my blog, so here is the most recent one:

One of my favorite blogs is one I only recently discovered:

Happy 5 years! 🙂

Happy blogiversary!
This is an old one but it was so sincere and I will always love it:

Crap wrong link.
That’s it. Don’t know how that other one got there.

Happy blogaversary! I love your blog, pretty much all of them. It is so strange how I start thinking of things and then you are writing my thoughts. How is it that you seem to so perfectly put words to my thoughts? I hope you have many more years blogging.

Miranda August 24, 2013 at 10:42 am

I think I’ll go with this one:

I like to remember how lucky I am to have amazing people in my life and that is what this post turned into.

Tara August 25, 2013 at 9:47 pm

I am not sure I have a favorite post. Maybe this one?:
I love to see the split of Eriana’s face between mine and Jim’s, and mine between my parents. I think daily about who Eriana will be.

My favorite blog is harder to choose. I have made so many friends through blogging and the Internet, and some of my oldest reads are still my favorites (Jennie, Meredith, Jonna). But there are even more that I have come to know and love and I’ve come to adore the ladies behind the blogs, too (YOU, Shalini, Noemi, TJ, and, of course, Swistle). Too hard to choose, sorry! 🙂
