What’s on the TeeVee?

Today’s prompt comes from Alexis (@thewellreadmom), who is ALSO doing this month long challenge!

What TV series are you super into right now?

This question comes at an interesting time for me. I’m usually a total tv junkie, with an insanely full DVR and lots of “can’t miss” shows. But for the last few months, I’ve been kind of…meh, about most tv, even my long time favorites. I’ve been spending more time reading, or playing Lego Harry Potter, or watching movies than on tv shows.

I don’t know if this is because I’m more critical of what IS on tv (Community, you’re just NOT the same anymore), or if I don’t have the mental brain power for some of my old standby shows, but my series watching has drastically dropped off.

So, where does that leave the question Alexis asked? Let’s find out…

1. Game of Thrones. This is my biggest obsession right now. I both loathe (work starts again the next day) and love (YAY GoT time!) Sundays because of this show. Now, a big part of my obsession comes from having read the books, and loveloveloving seeing how they bring them to life. AND, I know the big plot points in the book and can’t wait to see them on screen. BUT I also just think it’s really good tv, most of the time. You have to pay attention, because there’s a lot going on, but I almost always have something to talk about when the show is over.

2. Mad Men. The funny thing with this one is that I’m a few weeks behind. It takes me so much mental space to watch Mad Men, and I just really have to be in the right frame of mind. But when I AM? Oh the show is good. The acting is good. The set and costuming is amazing. (Related: if you watch the show, and you remotely like clothes or the ideas of costuming, you NEED to be reading Tom & Lorenzo’s Mad Style posts. They are, truly, one of my very favorite things on the internet–and they’re SMART commentary on how the clothes of the show reinforce the storytelling. Seriously, awesome. In fact, I would recommend going back and reading them all, for all the episodes in all the seasons. They’re THAT good.).

*I’m also super into Sons of Anarchy, but it’s not back until the fall, and I’m all caught up, so it’s not something I’m currently watching.

(now a few that I’m watching, but wouldn’t say I’m SUPER into)

3. Revenge. This is just fun, popcorn style tv. It’s soapy as hell, but the clothes and the people are pretty, and it’s fun to watch them all smolder.

4. Nashville. Ok, if I’m honest, I mostly watch this for Connie Britton’s hair. It’s a decent way to spend 45 minutes, but I’m not heartbroken if I’m a few weeks behind.

5. Community. Oh, Community, why have you forsaken me? I’m still watching, but it is of DECIDEDLY different quality without Dan Harmon. I’m basically still in it for Abed at this point.

So, since I feel like that list is pretty lame, I’ll add in a few of the ones I have on my “to watch someday when I get my act together” too:

  1. Dr. Who
  2. Scandal
  3. The Vampire Diaries
  4. Breaking Bad
  5. Sherlock

I’m also planning on rewatching Veronica Mars before the movie comes out next year (yay!), and Alias, just because.

So, what tv shows are YOU super into right now?

I’m late to the game, but I blew right through the first season of Homeland recently and I’m dying to get to the second. I like that it surprises me and keeps me guessing. That seems rare these days!

Love Revenge and Scandal. I think you will like Scandal in the same way you like Revenge. Mostly watch series on Netflix or another app on the ipad. Seldom watch real tv anymore.

Love your blogs!

I agree with you- I’m a tv junkie but some nights I’m just not that excited to watch a show.

Game of Thrones- absolutely the BEST show on tv right now.
Mad Men- I thought last season was a bit boring and this season is as well. I’m not sure how much longer CP and I will watch.
Revenge- the first season was SO GOOD and now, not so much.
Scandal- fun for a silly, non-thinking show
Parks & Rec- awesome. Simply awesome.

Two shows that I would like to watch on Netflix when I get some time- Friday Night Lights and The West Wing.

I wasn’t going to comment but OMG VAMPIRE DIARIES. No one believes me, but the story arcs are incredible. And I’m a very jaded TV watcher. Also, I don’t usually say this, but *squee* Veronica Mars movie!

Counting the days til Breaking Bad starts again.

Also curious about Sherlock. I’ve seen Elementary which is pretty good/light viewing.

Love Mad Men but have to be in the mood for it, too!
