A Holiday Meme

I saw this holiday meme over at blogging with mittens and Tragic Sandwich, and figured it was a good way to rev up my holiday spirit. Let’s see!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot Chocolate (though I really prefer something like non-alcoholic Wassail or just a plain Chai soy latte to either one)

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? A combo–big gifts are unwrapped, with a couple others wrapped. No, Santa doesn’t use special wrapping paper.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
A combo. Right now we have colored lights on the mantel and white ones down the stairs, and the tree will get both (we use a…LOT of lights on the tree), usually white deep on the inside and color on the outside

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No. I honestly find mistletoe kind of odd (even though I have…ah…lovely memories thanks to mistletoe).

5. Tacky holiday sweaters: yea or nay?
Nay, except for amusement sake.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
We often make a lot of the same dishes for Christmas as for Thanksgiving, so–stuffing probably. Or mashed potatoes.

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
Decorating the house and the tree with my family. Putting out the nativity, and pulling out all the ornaments were always a very special part of the holiday.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I have no idea. Obviously it happened, but I can’t remember any grand realization.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Nope, we wait to open them all on Christmas morning, no matter how hard it is to wait.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
Lights, ornaments, a star topper. As a kid, I loved putting tinsel up, but we don’t use it now. (In large part because of the cat, but in part because my husband doesn’t like it).

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I live in San Diego, we don’t see snow unless we go out of our way for it. When we were in NY/NJ, I liked the first snowfall, until the plows came out. After that I hated it all.

12. Can you ice skate?
I can go forward. In a fairly straight line. If I’m lucky.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Hmmm. I loved the year N.C. got me 10 cases of Diet Coke delivered to the office. I remember a year I got a grill being super stoked. Probably the most MEMORABLE gift though, was the year that I WOKE UP in my gift… a waterbed. I was pretty young, and man did that cement my belief in Santa. (As a parent now, I realize that kids, when they are really asleep, are basically a sack of flour for all they wake up enough to really remember stuff).

14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Family. Whether it’s my full extended family, or my little family here, I love being with my family and making memories.

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Pick a pie, any pie.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Wearing the Santa hat and passing out presents. And stockings. I love stockings.

17. What tops your tree?
A big giant star.

18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving?
I like em both, to be honest. I love giving a gift that I know someone will love–especially when I know they’re not expecting it. But I do love to get gifts that same way as well.

19. Candy Canes: Yuck or Yum?
Cherry candy canes are awesome. Mint ones, not so much.

20. Favorite Christmas show?
Honestly? Scrooged. I love that movie. (How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a close second).

21. Saddest Christmas Song?
Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney. Because I hate it, and it gets played INCESSANTLY, and that makes me sad. Straight up sad though, I’d go with I’ll Be Home for Christmas. That last bit kills me.

22. What is your favorite Christmas song?
What Child Is This, or Carol of the Bells

Ok, YOUR turn!

OK, that waking up IN your gift thing is the BEST STORY. I love it.

(Also, thanks an effing lot for getting that Paul McCartney song stuck in my head. HAAAAAAAATE.)

I realized I was standing in the kitchen eating my tortilla and singing that horrible song. So thanks…

Wow. The waterbed thing… Cool and random.
Also ahhh! That Paul McCartney song! How can someone start out so cool and end up so lame?

Cherry candy canes? I have never heard of these. Where can they be found, pray tell?

And I, too, love the waterbed story.

Also love ‘What Child is This’!

Avoid free or super cheap dating websites; they
tend to attract the shadiest people. These dating services are
not only popular in Canada but are also popular in many countries worldwide so singles from different countries can also join. It’s important to take
a look at some of the other warning signs of a possible money scammer.
