A Day to Recharge

in Day in the Life

Today was pretty lovely, in direct contrast to the last few days.

Jackson let us sleep until 7:30, and when he woke up, he got into our bed and watched a movie while N.C. and I dozed some more. The morning included breakfast tacos and puzzles until the kid’s nap. I worked out, took a leisurely shower, and read my book during naptime. When Jackson woke up, we played for a couple of hours and then took a little jaunt to the local airport to watch the little commuter planes for a bit. Jackson went down early, and my plan for the rest of the night is to read my book while N.C. plays video games. I wore my pajamas almost the entire day.

In other words, it was exactly the kind of day I needed.

The past few weeks have been crazy–to the point where it occurred to me today that, in fact, Halloween WASN’T just last week, and I think that a day like today was exactly what I needed to recharge. There’s a lot I “should” be doing, particularly since we have a short week and a holiday coming up, but this is the kind of day my brain and body needed.

N.C. and I were talking a few weeks ago about how full the calendar is, and we both kind of wondered when it happened that we became people who had something going on all the time. We weren’t always like this, but it sure seems to have ramped up in the past couple of years. Is it just growing up? The addition of a kid? Living in suburbia? I dunno, but here we are–this is the first weekend in forever that we haven’t had a SINGLE thing on the agenda for the weekend, and it’s the last one for at least a month. The calendar…makes me tired sometimes.

At the same time, I’m loving how much we’re doing, both as a family and individually. It’s nice to go do things like apple festivals and pumpkin patches. It’s nice to go have a girl’s weekend. It’s nice to have things to do, and experiences, especially considering we(I) had a few years where that wasn’t the case. For all my complaining about being tired, I wouldn’t lose what we’re gaining just for a little more rest.

But occasionally, I do need a day where I stay in my pajamas (almost) all day.

We had the same kind of weekend. Nothing at all planned, for the last time until January. I’m trying to soak it in!

Sounds heavenly!
