Looks Like We Made It

And so, the great NaBloPoMo experiment of 2011 ends. I have to say, it felt a little different this year than the previous years I’ve done it. On the one hand, it actually didn’t seem as hard to post every day. I’ve been posting 4-5 days a week pretty consistently for a while now, and adding in 2-3 extra days wasn’t as challenging as I thought it would be with a toddler around. Oh sure, I phoned it in on a few days, but not many were very different than what I’d normally post, so I’m pretty happy with that aspect. And I do think I did some decent writing this month, so that’s another bonus.

On the other hand, though, I feel as if this NaBloPoMo was MUCH less community focused than in previous years. One of the things I’ve loved about NaBloPoMo in the past has been the community, the support, the finding new blogs. In fact, some of my favorite blogs today are ones I started reading during NaBloPoMo three years ago. This year, I don’t know if I added more than 3 blogs to my lineup. Now, I know a lot of that has to do with me, and the way I interact (and, let’s be honest, my ability to dedicate time to the act of finding new blogs). But I feel like it was so much harder to find/share/interact with other NaBloPoMo-ers than in the past. That’s been a real disappointment.

But all told, I’m glad that I did it again. I may not have gained any new readers (if I did, say hi new readers!), and I may not have gained many new reads myself, but I put a challenge to myself (at a typically difficult time of year) and met it. That’s something to be proud of, if only to prove that I can. And as usual, I now have IDEAS! and THINGS TO DO WITH MY BLOG! and PLANS! Because if nothing else, forcing myself to view this space every single day for 30 days makes me open my eyes to where I can grow and where I need work and where I’m completely content with who I am as a blogger.

So farewell November and NaBloPoMo. One of you I’ll definitely meet again next year..the other? Well, we’ll see.

Just found your blog today (after you requested to follow me on Twitter – thanks :)) and didn’t know you were a fellow NaBloPoMoer 🙂

I agree, it wasn’t as community oriented this year – I personally think that the move to the blogher-website made it more anonymous (I think the site is poorly organized and not easy to navigate!).

Congratulations on finishing NaBloPoMo though – I’ve been doing it since year 1 and it’s always been a lot of fun 🙂
