A Dream Dentist?

I had to get two fillings today. So, you know, I was SUPER excited to start my Monday that way. /sarcasm

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I don’t love the dentist. I’ve spent a lot of time there, after all, I should know. I have crummy teeth with equally crummy dental insurance (better than none!), and I hate the fact that I keep having to give them so much of my freaking money. Not to mention, my last two dentists have been…not the best. We’ve had to have work redone, there have been shady business practices, questionable costs, and crummy service. Plus, you know, pain and torture and stuff. So, yeah, I don’t love the dentist.

So, knowing all of that, imagine my shock at this:

The time at my new dentist’s office today was not only pleasant, it was…enjoyable. (I know, who AM I?)

I love my new dentist. She’s thorough, she’s competent. She talks AND listens. She explains and gives options. She’s not double booked. She has a gentle touch, is quick but not hasty, and is considerate of you as a patient. Consider: I was getting two fillings done. Before we got started, she offered me vasaline for my lips so they don’t pull or crack. She gave me something to bite on to keep my jaw open without stress.

She offered me the option of my personal Pandora radio station or a movie.

Her office is calm, modern, and as inviting as a dentist’s office can be. The chairs have headrest lifts to ease strain on the patient’s neck. The staff knows what they’re doing, they know what the dentist is doing, they know how to explain bills. They provide clear written treatment plans that are understandable to a lay person…but they explain them anyway.

They offer text, email, phone, and Facebook (?!?) for making appointments and for reminders.

You guys, I think this place is as good as a dentist can possibly get. A qualified, compassionate, intellegent provider with a staff that knows how to do their jobs and who all treat their patients like they would like to be treated? Win. I may not like having to give a dentist all of my money, but if I have to? This dentist will be the one who gets it. (And oh, yes, I do have to give the dentist my money. My teeth only seem to get worse, not better).

And now? I can never move again, because I don’t want to try and find another dentist like this ever again.

(This is in no way sponsored or anything, I’m just in awe at how pleasant the dentist was. I…I…I never knew it could be like this! Although, maybe I should talk to them about that, because I have to pay for this damn dental work somehow!)

Hooray! It seems that you were due a good break, given the crap from last week (which sorry, I didn’t get around to commenting on… because my week was pretty hectic, too- but not as bad as yours: no flat tires and no meetings as annoying as that one!)

omgosh! I’m jealous! I’ve had horrible experiences with dentists as well, it’s just so hard to find a good one and I’m always weary of them.

So happy that you landed with someone that you love and who’s decent!

I feel the same way about optometrists. I haaate them and then last year I found one that doesn’t scare me. Good, because now I have to go today so they can remove the contact lens stuck to my eyeball OMG it’s going to be awful…sorry, just anxiety-commented all over your blog.
