Just to Liven Things Up

in Becoming Myself

Today I got my hair cut. Nothing fancy, just a 6 week “check-up”, i.e. maintenance appointment. I never used to be good about going every six weeks, but with the shorter hair, if I don’t my hair stops responding to any and all attempts at keeping it styled/brushed/not sticking out in a million directions.

SO! Haircut. No big thing.

Although there is this…

Brown hair with a streak of blue

I’ve actually wanted one of these brightly colored strips for a while, but I’ve avoided it because…well, I’ve been afraid of the whole bleach issue. I mean, it’s one thing to damage my hair for “grown-up” colors, or to deal with regrowth for classic, sophisticated looks, but to deal with all that for neon blue? At 32? With a professional job where I have to manage people, talk to VP’s and customers? Yeah, I’ve waffled on it.

Lucky for me then, that that streak of blue isn’t on MY hair! Instead, it’s a simple extension–it took all of about 30 seconds to put in, and it will come out sometime in the next 3 weeks (if not sooner). I get to indulge my desire for this wild and crazy color, but without the commitment!

It’s kind of weird to feel it, and honestly, my scalp is a little tender right around the application point. We’ll see how I feel about it in a few days, much less a couple of weeks. But I kind of love it right now. I think it’s fun, and I get to play with some out of character look without having to deal with any long term fall out. And if I like it (and I don’t get too much flak at work), I can see myself going with a different color in a different location every few months.

And hey. I’ve got blue hair now!

Love it. Love it! I remember being jealous of Rachel McAdams when she had the pink in her hair, and now I’m jealous of you! I work in such a conservative setting, I could never get away with it…maybe my next vacation…

Looks great! Love it and a bit jealous – so glad you found a way to “try it out” without full commitment. So so so fun!!! Way to go!

Love it!

I think it’s time for me to donsomething similar. I’ve always worked where there’s a strict uniform/dress code. Now I have the freedom!

I love it! I can’t wait to see how everyone reacts–maybe it will become a permanent thing after all!
