Go Blog, It’s Your Birthday!

in Blogging & Social Media, Celebrations

Yesterday was my three year blogoversary. Three years. Three years of sitting in front of a glowing screen and connecting with people I’ve (mostly) never met(yet).  Three years of writing my most random thoughts. Three years of pouring my brain through my fingers into a little box, to share it with the internet.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s nothing. I know there are people who have been writing online for way longer than that. I know there are people who have built their online homes into SO MUCH more than RambleRamble.

But this space is hugely important to me. RambleRamble is one of a handful of places that I feel completely myself. I may write silly things. I may write serious things. I may write mindless venting things. But in all things I write, I’m using my voice. I’m exploring my thoughts…silly, serious, or mindless though they may be.

I’ve also loved this space because of the connections it’s given me. I think of you guys as my friends, as silly as some people may find that. I honestly feel like I have gained friends that span the country, the continent (what up Canadian friends!), and in a few cases, the globe. That’s a pretty badass result of sitting in front of a computer, you know?

In the past few weeks, I’ve finally (finally!) come to grips what I’m comfortable using this space for, and what I’m comfortable doing to build it. That may seem silly, but I had a period of time where my delusions of grandeur bumped up against my personal comfort level, and I struggled with what I wanted to make this space be in the long term. Now I’m even happier than ever with my little online home, and feel (mostly) content with my place in the online world.

I didn’t really mean for this to turn into a self-indulgent trip into my blogging psyche, but hey, why change things up after three years? 😉

Anyway, in honor of my absolute favorite part of blogging, I’d love if you left me a comment with 1) your favorite thing about blogging/reading blogs  2)your blog link and/or 3)the link to a blog you love. Especially if you usually lurk, I’d love to see you come out of the woodwork today and share a little bit with me.

Because at the end of the day, my favorite part about this is the connections I’ve made with readers and other bloggers…and I hope to have many more years of those connections!

Congrats on 3 years! I started one year ago this month; I can’t imagine making it 3 years. I enjoy blogs that offer a different perspective from my own (or make me think in a different way), blogs that I can relate to and blogs with pretty photography. One of my favs is Enjoying the Small Things – http://www.kellehampton.com/ .

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:23 pm

You’ll be at 3 years before you know it 😉

Happy blogiversary!

1. My favorite thing about reading blogs is learning new things. Whether it is a new recipe, a new workout to try or something else, I come away with something every day.

3. Hilarious picture blog- http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com.

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:24 pm

Oh god, I love Hyperbole and a Half. I can’t wait until her book is out!

melissa atkinson August 22, 2011 at 12:25 pm

Congrats on three years! Mine totally passed and I forgot about it. 1. My favorite things about reading blogs is getting to know the person behind the blog, I love pretty photography, recipes and watching kiddos grow.

3. Just a fav I visit everyday : http://www.astheforestegrows.com

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:25 pm

I only remembered mine because it’s the same week as my birthday–makes it easier to remember!

Trina August 22, 2011 at 12:25 pm

Happy 3 year anniversary! That is a great thing because I’ve seen many blogs close down after a few years. Congrats on finding your voice!

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:26 pm

Thanks! I think I saw some statistic that a huge percentage of blogs that get started shut down after 8 months, so I’m beating the average! 🙂

Juli Novotny August 22, 2011 at 1:06 pm

Hey, congrats. Glad you’re still loving what you’re doing. It’s hard not to throw in towel or get bored sometimes.

Fun being apart of the http://www.SDMOMFIA.com blog & of course here’s my food/kids blog:

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:28 pm

I can honestly say I’ve never been bored here–frustrated maybe, but never bored. I’m so glad I found something that “fits” me so well. (your blog is utterly gorgeous by the way. Serious eye candy!)

Rory, Chocolate Hair / Vanilla Care August 22, 2011 at 1:23 pm

1) my favourite thing about blogging is all of the thank-you letters that i receive. they make all the hard work worth it. 🙂

2) my blog: http://www.chocolatehairvanillacare.com/

3) a blog that i LOVE (whenever i need a good laugh, i hit this place up) Black and WTF: http://blackandwtf.tumblr.com/

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:29 pm

Oh that tumblr is hysterical! Thanks for sharing!

Jamie August 22, 2011 at 2:38 pm

Happy Blogoversary! What a long, strange trip it’s been, huh? I’m a relatively new reader, but I’m enjoying tripping back through your previous posts when I get the chance. Honest-to-goodness good stuff I tell ya. I so appreciate what you’re saying about your blog being your special space; I’ve only been at my blog for about 6 months and I already feel the same way. Anywho, hope your blog gets you something awesome for your big milestone! Enjoy!

And here’s a linky-dink to my blog…www.jamiewalkerball.com

And here’s one that I like a lot…www.ishouldabeenastripper.com

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:31 pm

I do love this blog. It’s funny to think of where I started and where I am now…wonder where I’ll be in another 3 years!

Elizabeth August 22, 2011 at 2:53 pm

Happy three years! I’m so glad to have actually met you in person, and look forward to doing it again before too much time passes.

I love Wendi’s blog: http://wendiaarons.com/

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:32 pm

Next time I’m in your neck of the woods for more than an overnight trip, we’ll have to meet up again (and get our kiddos together!).

Danielle August 22, 2011 at 3:12 pm

Happy blogiversary! Congrats on three years 🙂 Definitely something to be proud of.

I love blogging not only for the connections I make but for the memories I can store and remember. Since I blog about my family and life I find that i turn to the blog as a way of remembering what’s happened. Especially when trying to keep track of my kids and their accomplishments!

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:34 pm

I do love the memory part of it (especially since my memory is so bad now!). I love looking back through my archives to see where I was, where my kid was, what we were doing, etc. I love that!

Brooke August 22, 2011 at 4:41 pm

My blogiversary is this week too, but it doesn’t seem quite so celebratory… My favorite part of my blog (http://lifeafterthefire.com) is when someone contacts me and thanks me for writing because no one else seems to get it. That makes some of the other stuff seem worth it.

The two blogs I check religiously are Anna’s http://abdpbt.com and Fearless Formula Feeder http://fearlessformulafeeder.blogspot.com.

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Your blogiversary is definitely not as celebratory. But I do think out of your tragedy you’re building a really amazing resource for people. That’s something to be proud of!

Nanette August 22, 2011 at 5:12 pm

Happy blogiversary!

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:36 pm

Thanks!

bekah August 22, 2011 at 5:46 pm

well happy three years!

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:37 pm

Well thank you!

Lex August 22, 2011 at 6:35 pm

Happy three years!!! 😀

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:38 pm

Thanks! Here’s to (at least?) three more!

Justine August 22, 2011 at 6:56 pm

Happy blogoversary! I love the community that blogging has helped me to find … and the voice it’s given me. 🙂 Here’s to many more years!

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:40 pm

That’s exactly what I love–and I love that it’s what keeps so many of us blogging!

clara August 22, 2011 at 8:17 pm

Hey happy happy! And your real birthday sometime around now, right?

Three years is a good number. I love threes.

I love blogging because…you can empty the contents of your head and there is always at least one person — maybe even someone you don’t know — who says WOW, you get it! And then you know someone else gets the thing you get. And you don’t feel so alone.

I will recommend http://velocibadgergirl.blogspot.com/ because she is another quietly hilarious, long-term, hardcore blogger that I love. We go way back to nablopomo ’06 yo.

Keep telling your stories. 🙂

“I love blogging because…you can empty the contents of your head and there is always at least one person — maybe even someone you don’t know — who says WOW, you get it! And then you know someone else gets the thing you get. And you don’t feel so alone.”

YUP. EXACTLY.

(and yup, my birthday is on Friday. Probably the only way I can remember my blogiversary, is the proximity to my birthday!).

Joann Woolley August 22, 2011 at 8:47 pm

I’m still new to your blog – happy 3 years!

I blog about baby sign language and then started a new blog about reclaiming my personal identity after having 3 children and starting a business all in the span of 3 1/2 years…. Two seperate blogs that I wish could be just one but it seems like they are too different ; ) I love all the local bloggers I’ve met and read! Too many good ones to name – Laural Out Loud I probably go to regularly because I value learning more about organics and she is hella funny!

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:44 pm

Whew, those ARE different! But that’s part of what I love about blogging–you can delve into all the things that are important to you–if you’ve got the energy 🙂 !!

Cloud August 22, 2011 at 10:44 pm

Happy Blogoversary!

My favorite thing about blogging is getting insights into other cultures/lifestyles. From the trivial to the profound- I learn a lot this way.

My blog is Wandering Scientist.

It is hard to choose a favorite to send you to… hmm…. I guess blue milk for a feminist take on parenting without a lot of the overt confrontation that you find on some feminist sites. I don’t always agree with her, but her posts are always respectful and interesting.

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:48 pm

How else besides blogs would I read about lives of scientists, stay at home moms, computer programmers, designers, academics, and social workers…all in a 1 hour time span? I love it!

Michelle August 23, 2011 at 8:36 am

Happy 3 years! I have been “blogging” for forever it seems, and started with ridiculous Livejournal like 10 years ago. But “blog” wasn’t even a term then, and I never took it seriously. Haha. I’ve only seen it as something worthwhile and other than just-for-me emo-ranting for the last 3 years or so.

I really like http://modernmrsdarcy.com I can’t wait for her to post and then think really hard about what she’s posted on!

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 9:50 pm

That IS a long time!

Technically, I had a myspace blog for a few years before I started Ramble Ramble…but I don’t really count that (although I did bring some of those posts over here…the really old stuff in my archives.).

Erin August 24, 2011 at 7:17 pm

Happy Blogoversary! I feel like a bad blogger because I really have no idea when m actual blogoversary is. Oops.

Ginger August 24, 2011 at 8:48 pm

The only real reason I know is because it corresponds to my birthday week 🙂

Fearless Formula Feeder September 2, 2011 at 10:13 pm

Oh, happy birthday, ginger’s blog! You are older and wiser now, but still as sexy as ever. 😉

Seriously though – I think it is incredible, what you have built in such a short amount of time. My blog just had it’s 2 year blogiversary and I am nowhere near where you are. I look up to you a great deal and I am really glad you’re going strong after 3 wonderful years!

In terms of blogs I follow… I read PhDinParenting, this one, Brooke’s blogs, and nowyoureintheworld pretty regularly…

Maria September 6, 2011 at 1:26 pm

Excellent post and great way to get everyone involved! Happy Blogiversay too! Three years of consistent blogging is quite a feat and I hope to get there one day!

I love blogs that are short, sweet, inspirational – that make you want to do things like try new recipes, cafes, DIY or go travelling to far fetched countries!

And your blog is just plain hilarious which is why I keep coming back 🙂
