Reads From Around the Web

My round up of reads this week is, as usual, a group of posts that made me think, made me laugh, and/or made me sigh because OH DO I GET IT. This, folks, this is the part of blogging I love.

Over at Domestic Deeds, Kirsten shares a moment of motherhood that leads to a question over whether she’s made the right choice in working. I think all of us have wondered if we’ve taken the right path, but Kirsten makes a great point about how the choice we make needs to be right for us.

Over at The Happy Home, Emily describes the frustration she felt at BlogHer as a non-mom. Despite being a mom, I feel a lot of Emily’s frustration about the way that marketers zeroed in on MOMMY at BlogHer, and she raises a lot of really good points about the ways that this is short sighted. Take a gander, there’s some really good food for thought there.

Over at Kludgy Mom, Gigi wonders if we need a new currency for blogging besides comments. Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE comments (don’t we all?), but Gigi raises the point that that’s not the only way to show appreciation for a blog post. I would argue that I don’t want comments for comment’s sake. I want comments because you have something to say. But there are other ways to show appreciation for a post even if you don’t have anything to say, or time to say it. Anyway, it’s a good discussion over there!

Over at Wandering Scientist, Cloud waxes philosophical about whether we need to, basically, calm the hell down as parents with all the over-thinking and hyper focus on our kids. To quote “But I can’t help but think that we’ve gone a bit off our collective rockers. It is like we all see our kids as having been born with almost infinite potential, and think that it is our job to try to keep as much of that from “leaking away”  due to suboptimal activities as possible.” It’s a great read, and got me thinking a lot about how much my I over think parenting.

Finally, over at Parenting. Illustrated with Crappy Pictures, Amber gives us the top 8 crappy laws of parenting. Which basically made me snort diet coke from laughing. So you know, go. Laugh.

Happy Reading folks!

i know! despite contrary belief, women who don’t want kids have souls. 😉 now, let’s spread the word to lazy marketing honchos.

I agree about the blog comment thing. It would be nice to have a “like” or “thumbs up” button for readers to quickly express what they thought about a post.
