Flitting Thoughts

My brain won’t settle on one thing long enough to make a full blog post, so how about some bullets on what’s flitting through my head?

  • I’ve read Harry Potter 1, 2, 3, & 4 since last Wednesday. I started 5 today, and figure it will take me longer to get through what with no holiday weekend and a travel weekend too boot, but my goal (as always) is to read all 7 before going to see the last movie.
  • Speaking of the last movie, does it blow anyone else’s mind that this is the last one?
  • I’m getting REALLY excited about BlogHer. Are you going? We HAVE to meet up, seriously, it’s a must!
  • I’m leaving in 2 days for Texas…and I’m traveling all alone with the kiddo. I’m both terrified (hello lap child for 3 hours) and strangely…”whatever” about it. I’m going, he’s going, we’ll figure it out. I may get the looks from hell, but I’m hoping that MOST people will give me a little leeway since I’m traveling on my own with a toddler. And everyone else can just bite me. Maybe that blind hope is unfounded, but hey, let me keep my illusions.
  • Google + is interesting. I think there are some really cool features, some that make me REALLY excited to see if they catch on…and then some features that really just make it totally redundant to Facebook. But until more people are on there, I don’t think we’ll really see what you can do with it. (speaking of, if you’re on Google + let me know!)
  • I’ve been playing around with a new thing called Triberr. I’m…not sold on it yet. The gist is that you join small tribes of other bloggers, and then you all tweet out the posts that come in from that tribe–thereby amplifying your reach (in theory, automatically) to include the reach of the people in your tribe. It’s an interesting idea, but I’m being VERY cautious in my use of it so far. I think the key, if there is one, is to really get a tribe going of people who you know you’re always going to love their stuff, so when you tweet about it, it doesn’t feel like it’s outside what you would normally do–just easier. I dunno, I’m taking it pretty slow and easy.
  • Related: I think I’ve become firmly convinced that to make it big in the blogging world (whatever big is), you need a blogging mentor–someone you can ask questions of and get advice from and who is probably at least a little further along than you are and who isn’t averse to helping you grow–AND you need a group of bloggers who you can grow with, probably a handful who are at about the same place you are in your blogging career. Maybe you have the same sorts of blogging goals in the long run. Maybe you just really like and admire each other. Maybe a combo or some other factors. But you have your group who can retweet stuff and tell you when you’re not writing as well as you could and point you to ideas to blog about and be a sounding board and all that jazz. But the thing about that, is that group has to come together organically, based on you, your blog, and them and their blogs. This is just a theory of mine. Thoughts?

So sad about the Harry Potter movies coming to an end. Does that make me lame? Don’t answer that; I already know.

Good luck with your travels. I’m sure your little one will do just fine. They sell whiskey on the plane.

Ditto Danielle – also on Google+ with this email. I have no idea what it is, but I’m on there, haha. Harry Potter: so excited about the movie! I wish I had to thought to re-read the books, too. As always, really enjoy your thoughts on blogging, especially since you’re someone I look up to in the blogging world. Good luck in Texas!
