2010: A year in review

Like seemingly everyone else in the blogging world, I’m taking the year in review “quiz” that Sundry has posted. Let’s see how 2010 stacks up, yeah (wonder how much I’ll forget)?

1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?

Ate Brussels sprouts and liked them. Took a vacation with a kid…and lived to tell the tale. Went to my first blogger meet-up.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Ahahahahaha…well, looking back over my resolutions for 2010, it appears that–no, I’ve not keep them. I guess I can maybe say I kept the one about doing stuff with N.C. & Jackson, but the rest are pure fail. What a shocker.

I’ll have more to say about resolutions this weekend, but yes, I do have some “goals” for 2011. I’m just approaching it a little differently than I have in the past.  More to come…

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

A couple of real life friends, and quite a few internet friends. It’s all babies all the time!

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Luckily, no, although several people who I’m close to lost loved ones.

5. What countries did you visit?

Sadly, none. Again.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?

Direction. Local friends. Clothes that make me feel like I look good.

7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Our trip to San Francisco in May. The day that Jackson took his first wobbly steps toward me.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Trying to start my own business. Launching 4 websites at work. Creating an iPhone app for one of the brands I market. Continuing to pump until Jackson was one. Not losing my mind.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Yeah, that whole freelance business thing? Not so much.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Well, I spent most of March & April with some pretty vicious neck & back problems. I was pretty sick during my business trip in February (which ended up being a blessing in disguise as it kept me from totally freaking out over missing Jackson). And then I closed out the year with a lovely stomach bug that had me curled up in a feverish, vomitty ball for 2 days.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Our entertainment center that is both mobile AND keeps little hands off our electronics. New bras that fit. The Mumford & Sons album that has gotten me through many a work day. The Ergo.

12. Where did most of your money go?

Rent. The kid. The car & commute.

13. What did you get really excited about?

Traveling. Seeing family. Meeting one of my favorite bloggers in person.

14. What song will always remind you of 2010?

Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons. And Kids by MGMT (but only because I heard it so much for this).

15. Compared to this time last year, are you:

– happier or sadder? happier.

– thinner or fatter? fatter

– richer or poorer? we’ll call it a draw
16. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Called my friends & family. Gone out with my husband. Stepped outside my comfort zone. Exercised.

17. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Stressed over things I don’t have control over. Over analyzed myself to death. Eaten that last bite of cookie.

18. How did you spend Christmas?

At home with my boys.

19. What was your favorite TV program?

If I had to pick just one, I’d say Mad Men. Or Lost. Or Battlestar Gallactica (yes, I know it’s not on anymore, but since we’re watching the entire series for the second time THIS YEAR, I’m counting it).

20. What were your favorite books of the year?

This is one thing I’m utterly depressed about. I can only recall reading two, maybe three books all year long (well, except for 8 page board books, I read a ton of those). For someone who used to read 2-3 books a WEEK, this is a travesty. However, that being said, the best one I read all year was Half-Baked by Alexa Stevenson.

21. What was your favorite music from this year?

Basically everything that can be found on the Sirius Alt Nation station.

22. What were your favorite films of the year?

Inception. Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows. The Social Network.

23. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Well, I turned 31, and for the life of me, I can’t remember what I did. I’m guessing we went out to dinner, and maybe a movie?

24. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Winning the lottery? Ok, more realistically? Not having to deal with my commute. I hate that I give the freeway anywhere between 7-15 hours of my life a week.

25. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?

Stained with breastmilk and stretched out by grubby baby hands. Oh, and let’s not forget frumpy and ill fitting.

26. What kept you sane?

My husband. Jackson. This blog. My real-life and online friends.

27. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.

Soak up the little moments–they can be as inspiring and life changing as the big ones.

This is so familiar. Looking back on the year and wishing you had been ale to do more. But, you’re right about the little moments meaning so much more than they may seem at the time.

This year? BlogHer! Right? RIGHT? 😉

I think I read three books total when my kid was between 12-24 months. Just couldn’t stay awake for longer than two pages a night. Takes a long time to read a book that way!

Happy 2011!
