The heat index kills my productivity

This weekend was HOT. Which, of course, sapped all my energy to do ANY of the stuff I had planned–all the writing, photo uploading, video editing, cleaning, etc. Instead, we…laid around, lethargically, trying to keep ourselves and the kiddo cool. Jackson’s normal temperature runs at “oven”, so with this heatwave, he was operating more along “Molten Lava”. Which, like most of us, makes him grouchy. So the kid was grouch, N.C. & I were unmotivated, and the weekend was basically the least productive one in ages.

And yet, it was wonderful.

So instead of productivity, here’s what we did this weekend:

  • Watched some of the pilots we had DVR’ed. On the yes side–The Event, & (surprisingly) Hawaii 5-o. On the no side, sadly–Undercovers.
  • Had a Pixar weekend–Wall-E (for the millionth time), Cars (for the first time), and The Pixar Story–a history, however biased, about the early days of the company. REALLY fascinating stuff.
  • Took a few morning naps during the kids naps. Mmmmm, naps.
  • Drank a bloody mary or two. Which, if you know me, is really weird. I’m not a fan of tomato juice, so my recent love of bloody marys is kind of odd. But they were YUMMY.
  • Took the kid to the pool. He’s a fan of the water, but I think he’s a little cautious about the SIZE of the pool. It was a nice little cool down though.
  • Found a new local pizza place (when it’s WAY too hot to cook, delivery is the best). While it was a little more expensive than some national chains, it was sooooo good. The menu now has a spot on the fridge.
  • Read Half-Baked, Alexa Stevenson’s memoir. It was as good as everyone keeps saying. I don’t read Alexa’s blog (I have occasionally, but she’s not one of my regular reads), so I only picked the book up on the recommendation of…oh, everyone. I’m a follower, what can I say? Anyway, it was excellent–I read it in one sitting. If you have the chance to read it, I highly recommend it (unless you’ve currently got a baby in the NICU, or you’re pregnant. Wait a while in those cases).
  • Stayed off my laptop entirely, until Sunday night. Huzzah!

So, what’d you do this weekend? Anyone more productive than us (uh, probably all of you!)?

As always, more lists can be found over at Anna’s at abdpbt!

Today was the hottest day in HISTORY in downtown Los Angeles, can you believe this? In late September. I’m glad you read Alexa’s book, it’s great. But yes, not something to read until your baby’s safe home from the hospital.

Honestly, if all I do during the weekend is actually relax and not think about work or stress about anything, it’s a total win in my book!

Looks like another scorcher for today in the So Cal – keep it cool!
