Things I don’t understand

I just don’t understand

  • people who come to a complete stop before going over speed bumps. Slowing down, yes, but dead stop? Why? And of course, the closely related cousin:
  • coming to a dead stop to make a right turn on a green light. I know you’re just trying to piss me off.
  • the complete lack of brains that seems to overcome folks at the post office. Why is it taking you 30 minutes to buy 2 books of stamps? If I can get 4 books of stamps, 3 packages mailed across the country for different rates, with insurances and whatnot, and still be done in about 5-10 minutes (depending on who is helping me), I just don’t understand why something so simple takes you so long.
  • why my cat must walk in front of the computer monitor when I’m trying to work. Sit in my lap already!
  • what is up with Grey’s Anatomy–both the storylines and the actors being giant diva whinypants.
  • where all the bloggers have gone. Folks, my feed reader is not going to fill itself full of content to distract me from bad days. If you’ve stopped blogging, get back on that please.
  • what was up with Cuddy’s hair in last night’s House. Someone pissed off hair and makeup!
  • why I can’t be as witty and clever and funny as some other bloggers. I’ve always wanted to be witty and clever and funny, but just can’t pull it off the way some folks can. I guess I’ll just have to stick with…um, whatever this is.
  • my inability to go to bed before midnight. It’s a simple equation self. Get tired, go to bed, stop being tired, which in turn makes you a normal human being the next day. Instead you seem to opt for get tired, get on computer to check email, read a few blogs, obsess over twitter, get sucked into coding a page for husband’s upcoming art giveaway, check email again, decide to have some pie, go back to coding, twitter some more, drool over photography gear, daydream about someday being a photographer, snort water out your nose at that thought, debate about writing a new blog post, realize it’s 1am, decide to go to bed, wash face and other sundry nighttime rituals, get in bed, turn on tv, watch tv for 45 minutes, realize oh crap it’s almost 2am, finally dear god, go to bed. Self, KNOCK IT OFF. This is why you are tired and grouchy and in a pissy mood.
  • my family. I love them all dearly, but well, sometimes they’re all insane. Love them! But yeah, insane.
  • why it’s not December 23rd yet when I get 9 whole glorious days off from work. Damnit, I want my vacation time!

Obviously, I’m missing a clue about several key things! Anything you guys don’t understand these days? I’d love to know I’m not alone…

I would like to add:
people who drive 7 mph UNDER the speed limit. It’s as if they are afraid that they will spontaneously combust if they hit the speed limit.

Not that I have anger issues about that.

Ugh – I am so fed up with Grey’s right now. The whole Denny situation is making my head melt.

I’ve gone over a speedbump at like 30 mph and it was not good on the car. I agree they shouldn’t stop but definitely slow that crap down.

I have a Volvo that is really low, and as pathetic as it sounds, I have to come to a near stop in order to prevent bottoming it out!

I don’t have a cat here, but my dogs seem to think it is their given right to sit where ever the laptop happens to be. They will do anything they can to nudge it away and seize the warm spot.

If you ever find a reason for the speed bump thing… let me know!

Ally December 11, 2008 at 10:39 am

I am totally with you on Grey’s. I guess I’m still watching it at this point because I want to see how big of a train wreck it’ll end up being. It’s so sad. It used to be pretty good.

What I don’t understand even more is people who completely ignore speed bumps and BUMP signs and barrel right through them as though they don’t exist. Even in an SUV that can’t be too good on the shocks. I wish more Vegas drivers actually slowed down for that stuff.

Oh, and I am working on the getting to bed before midnight thing, too. Having xmas on the east coast should reset me like it did last year when I was ready for bed at 10 once we got back here. That is one good thing about traveling 2500 miles I guess!

Oh, there’s no doubt that you’ve gotta slow way down on the speed bump thing, but I’m talking dead complete stop. If you’ve got a car that may bottom out maybe (Elizabeth, you get a pass just cuz I like you!), but suv’s? F150s? No, no stopping for you. You’ve got no excuse.

I do remember this one place I used to live that had those big wide speed bumps, but hadn’t put up signs or painted them or anything, so of course I (and everyone else) went barreling over that thing at like 50. It felt a little like flying in turbulence. That sucked.

I don’t understand why *some* bloggers who get a whole 9 days off from work get to ever be cranky in the whole month leading up to that time off. I mean, seriously! =)

Touche Nilsa. 🙂

Would it help my defense if I say that I’m using up an entire year’s worth of vacation/sick/comp/floating holiday days (oh, yeah, we don’t have sick days here), so this is my first extended time off in over a year? And I won’t have another chance for another year?

No? ok, I’ll work on being cheerier 🙂

The driving things remind me of one of my favorite George Carlin quotes, “Ever notice how everyone driving slower than you is a moron and everyone driving faster than you is a maniac?”

I must admit, I’m one of the morons. I probably drive 5-7 under the limit, but to be honest, it’s started saving me gas. This summer I went from getting 350 miles per tank to well over 400. Helped out when gas was $3,792 per tank.
