It’s been a little too long since I’ve posted any pictures. Since I’m sick and my brain’s barely functioning, a picture post seems like it will serve me better than storytelling.
I took these pictures on the way up to LA a couple of weeks ago. I was playing with the idea of long exposure and what is sometimes called light or camera painting. Basically, you take a really slow shutter speed and move the camera (or the light source…for me it was the camera given that I was stuck in a moving car) around to capture the lights in cool ways.

Admittedly, I need some work on the technique. For one, I didn’t much “paint” anything besides straight or squiggly lines. And I can sort of see where the images break down on the edges. But I had a lot of fun playing with the camera, moving it around as cars drove by, shaking it up and down to try and vary the look of the streaks of light. I think I’ll probably continue to play with the technique in the future to work out some of the kinks, get a little more creative in what forms the light is creating, etc.
Plus, it made the drive up to LA a whole lot more interesting!
