Password please

I have a password problem people (ooh, alliteration, yay!). Let’s count how many things I use on a daily basis that require passwords:

  • 7 email accounts
  • 8 blog related programs
  • 5 social networks
  • 12 work related programs (which balloons up an additional 10 or so during certain times of the year)

Normally, it’s an obnoxious part of the day–one that annoys me, but I manage. I mean, I understand and respect the need for security and privacy, etc. And I fully recognize that it could be worse. I could have double that many passwords. Or, I could work at one of those crazy secure places where your password has to be 18 characters including 2 numbers, 2 characters, 2 symbols, and can’t be real words. Um, thanks, I’d just have to write them all down, thereby defeating the purpose of such secure passwords.

However, on days like today, when I’m sick and I’m out of it, and not quite comprehending things, my own little password problem becomes more than annoying.

Like when it took me 5 different times to log into my wordpress account. Or when it took me 3 times to remember that I had had to change the password for one work program yesterday. Or when I got locked out of one program because I didn’t use the right password in time.

I know there are programs that will “remember” passwords for you, but I’ve never fully trusted them. On days like today though, I’d gladly hand the keys to my brain over to someone else.

As long as it meant I could get my damn email!

The amount of accounts and passwords that I have is ridiculous. I know they shouldn’t all be the same but they are very similar so I don’t forget. My work passwords are insane too.

My friend just had some of her accounts hacked. I changed all the passwords to the major accounts I use.

I need a password manager too!

I hate passwords! Especially when they make you have a variation of capital and lowercase letters. Annoying! I used to work for a big company and the email service we used made you change your password every three weeks or so. It was madness.

Do you mind me asking why in the world you have 7 e-mail accounts and how you keep up with them?!? I can barely keep up with the two I have, frequently getting second requests from people at work for things b/c the first e-mail got lost in my in box.

I have 3 for work, one for this blog, one personal real world one, one just for junk, and one is technically my husbands but I end up helping him with his business so often that it’s practically mine.
It pretty much makes me insane.
